why www? no www!
Ever heard a radio announcer read out a website address “double u double u double u dot sydney restaurants dot com dot au”. It really takes a very long time to say ‘www’. So why do it? Why do we put a ‘www’ on the front of a domain name if everyone has it? The time has come for web hosts and site owners to drop the ‘www’. By all means, still allow people to reach your site using ‘www’ but make the necessary changes to your server settings (.htaccess etc) and redirect the ‘www’ to the blank host record equivalent.

We can only leave the www (and the http:// for that matter) off because our browser compensates. If you were to just have server.com this is a different server location for a non-http protocol. So instead of getting rid of www, we should really be using http:// as well, irrespective of redirects – also you may end up confusing search engine spiders who can’t decide if http://example and http://www.example.com are the same thing or not. A domain is a domain.
I guess its just a force of habbit, cant teach an old dog new tricks… or something like that hehe
using www is frustrating and also having to actually say it is even more annoying. i must agree with an old dog new tricks comment, there is only a few reason why we use it and i just see it as a signature to the web, and actually its a useful tool in advertising, as there are so many domain extensions now that with out the www (dot) a domain name just looks like a fancy name of a company, trying to be modern and keeping with time.
